For Estate Owners
How estate owners participate in planning cases — reviewing assets, suggesting allocations, and collaborating with your manager.
Your Estate Dashboard
If you have been invited to Allocate as an estate owner, you have access to a dedicated portal designed for reviewing and providing input on the distribution of your property.
When you sign in, you will see your Estate Dashboard — a list of the estates (cases) you are connected to. Each estate card shows the current status and progress through the three phases: Inventory, Allocation, and Fulfillment.
Click on any estate to view its details, review the assets, and provide your allocation preferences.
Note: Estate owner access is available in Planning cases — a case type specifically designed for living owners who want to participate in the distribution process. Your estate attorney or fiduciary creates the case and invites you.
Adding and Managing Assets
In the Assets view, you can see every item that has been cataloged in your estate. Each asset includes:
- Title and description.
- Photographs (displayed as a carousel if multiple images are attached).
- Valuation information (exact value, range, or unknown).
- Attached documents such as appraisals or condition reports.
- Custom metadata fields relevant to the item.
You can browse the full inventory, search for specific items by title, and filter by various criteria. This view gives you a complete picture of what is being distributed.
Depending on how your manager has configured the case, you may also be able to add assets directly. This is common when the owner has the most detailed knowledge of their property and wants to contribute items, descriptions, and photographs to the inventory.
Viewing the Allocation
The Allocation view shows the current state of distribution decisions for your estate. Here you can see:
- Which beneficiaries are part of the case.
- Which assets have been assigned to which beneficiaries.
- Which items are marked for liquidation (sale).
- Which items still need a decision.
You can suggest allocations for individual assets — indicating which beneficiary you would like to receive a specific item, along with notes explaining your reasoning. Your manager will see these suggestions alongside the voting data from beneficiaries and can incorporate your input into the final decisions.
Note: Your suggestions are advisory. The manager makes the final allocation decisions, but your input is visible to them and factored into the process.
Understanding the Process
The distribution of your estate follows a structured process:
-
Inventory — Your manager (and possibly you) catalogs all tangible personal property with descriptions, photographs, and valuations.
-
Allocation — Beneficiaries participate in voting rounds to express their preferences. You can view the results and provide your own suggestions for how items should be distributed.
-
Fulfillment — Your manager reviews all input — beneficiary votes, your suggestions, and any external factors — and makes final allocation decisions. The case is then finalized and reports are generated.
Throughout this process, you can monitor progress from your estate dashboard. The platform provides transparency into how decisions are being made, which helps ensure that the distribution reflects your wishes as closely as possible.
If you have questions about the process or need to discuss specific allocation decisions, coordinate directly with your manager. They have full control over the case and can incorporate your feedback at any stage.
